Effects of process parameters on thickness and roughness of micro-arc oxidation ceramic coating of Q235 steel

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The ceramic coating was prepared in situ on Q235 carbon steel in silicate electrolyte system by micro-arc oxidation (MAO). The thickness and morphology of ceramic coating were investigated via adjusting electrical parameters and oxidation time. The results show that the morphology of ceramic coating is irregular porous structures at the surface. The elements of electrolyte and Q235 carbon steel matrix such as iron, silicon, oxygen and phosphorus, exist in the ceramic coating as amorphous phase. The thickness and roughness of ceramic coating are gradually increased with the increase of the frequency and peak current density. At the same time, the process of thickness and roughness of ceramic coating growth divides two stages in related to oxidation time; meanwhile, the process presents two linear relationships.
