Abstract

Nano 3Y-TZP powders with an average grain diameter of 10nm and soft agglomeration were synthesized by chemical precipitation. These powders were pressed trader different pressure, so the initial densities of compacts were different. After being sintered in vacuum sintering furnace with same pressure, temperature and time, three discs were obtained. In addition, superplastic forming was investigated with these discs. By measuring relative density, hardness distribution and SEM of microstructure, effects of initial density on hot-press sintering and superplastic forming of nano 3Y-TZP were investigated. Results shown that relative density after sintering didn't increase greatly with increasing of initial density, but hardness distribution, microstructure and superplasticity varied with initial density.
