Abstract
A laboratory-scale activated sludge process with diatomite additives was put forward for the coal gasification wastewater treatment. The results indicated that the biomass and the efficiency of COD and NH4+-N removal are increased comparing with the data of the three-stages activated sludge process of a certain plant. Another jar test was conducted for measuring dissolved oxygen consumption ratio in the mixing liquid with different total phenols concentration. The results showed that the addition of diatomite in the mixing liquid could enhance bacterial activity obviously in the total phenols concentration range of 188.9-312.4 mg/L. The results of adsorption test of diatomite and PAC in the wastewater demonstrated that adsorption of the phenols and dissolved oxygen was the main mechanism for enhancing the bacterial activity and the efficiency of the wastewater treatment.
