Abstract
Effects of conventional heat treatment on oxygen-rich α layer and mechanical properties of TC4 alloy were studied under air atmosphere condition. The results show that with the increase of heating temperature and holding time, the α-layer thickness increases which result in the reductions of strength, elongation and reduction of area of TC4 alloy. The forming kinetics curves of oxygen-rich α layer accord with the parabolic law, which can be described as y=at1/2 and the growth of α layer is controlled by oxygen diffusion. The forming of α layer belongs to thermal activation behavior, and a prediction model is established.
