Abstract

Considering the impact of wall deformation, the aerodynamic performance of a mixed compression intake with a constant back pressure was explored using the fluid structure interaction method in the present paper. The internal flow results with various back pressures were first obtained using rigid wall model, together with critical back pressure ratio and maximum total pressure recovery. After including geometric nonlinearity, the static displacements of the intake with various wall thicknesses was determined by transfering pressure load from the steady flow result under the back pressure ratio of 30 to the structural solver. The new steady flow results were obtained after updating the flow domain and mesh according to the intake wall deformation. This study reveals that the flow path area is increased by wall deformation, causing shock wave modification with oblique shock waves moving downstream and normal shock wave upstream. The impact of wall deformation increases with decreasing wall thickness. However, the total pressure recovery of the intake is influenced only slightly by the wall deformation.
