Effect of tube length on coil discharge current in electromagnetic forming

Abstract

In order to analyze the change law of coil discharge current in electromagnetic forming process, the effect of the tube length on the coil discharge current was investigated by experimental and algebraic analytical methods on the basis of the discharge circuit analysis. The results show that the amplitude and the frequency of coil discharge current increase with the growth of tube length. The effect of the tube length on the coil discharge current was analyzed qualitatively by analytic method. The theoretical analysis results well agree with the experimental results. The equivalent inductances of discharge circuit are different at variant tube lengths. And the equivalent inductance of discharge circuit is inversely proportional to the tube length. The inductance and mutual-inductance of forming system can be analyzed qualitatively by the method of equivalently processing the coil and tube as the hollow cylindrical coil.
