Abstract
The method of thermomechanical treatment was used to improve the microstructure and properties of the hypoeutectic Fe-C-B alloy containing 0.36%C and 1.48%B. The results show that after hot deformation, the continuous network distribution of hard phase containing boron in the alloy is crushed into gathered particles, and the preferential orientation of (110) planes is obtained in α-Fe. Furthermore, in the deformed samples quenched at 1050°C, the hard phase presents stripe and bulk dispersing in the martensite matrix, and the preferential orientation of (110) planes in α-Fe disappears. After themomechanical treatment, the hardness of the alloy is 58 HRC, while the impact toughness increases to 9.3 J/cm2, which is much higher than that of the samples without the treatment.
