Effect of the Sommerfeld number on plain bearing dynamic coefficients

Abstract

To study Sommerfeld number of bearing dynamic characteristics, short-bearing oil film force nonlinear dynamics model is built, which got the influence factor on eccentricity, the minimum film thickness, maximum film pressure, temperature, stiffness coefficient, and damping coefficient. There exists a critical Sommerfeld number when analyzing 2D film pressure. The maximum film pressure has great effect when Sommerfeld number is below the critical speed, and the maximum film pressure has little effect when Sommerfeld number is higher than the critical speed.
