Effect of the addition W on the microstructure and mechanical properties for high-Nb TiAl alloy

Abstract

The effect of the addition W (0.2 at. %) on the microstructure and mechanical properties for high-Nb TiAl alloy was studied. The experimental results show that the W alloying changes the cast structure and does not change the structure after heat process of high-Nb TiAl alloy. The W alloying does not change the influence of 4 typical structures and temperature on the mechanical properties. The W alloying can increase the room temperature strength, high temperature strength, the ductile-brittle transition temperature of the high-Nb TiAl and decreases the falling rate of the strength which decrease the temperature. The W addition has a little effect on the room temperature ductility. The W addition benefits for the higher temperature application for FAM structure.
