Abstract

The specimens of 400 MPa grade ultrafine grained steel were welded by manual arc welding, the microstructure and mechanical properties of welded joints under different cooling condition were analyzed. The results show that the cases about grain size increasing greatly and strength decreasing do exist in HAZ of manual arc welded joints of 400 MPa grade ultrafine grained steel. The strength of welded joint could be increased obviously by water cooling in course of welding, and the process of manual arc welding with water cooling is practical for welding ultrafine grained steel.
