Abstract

The effect of PPC preoxidation on nitrification was conducted by measuring the quantity of nitrite bacteria and nitrate bacteria, nitrosification performance and nitrification performance in the BAC process. The results showed that nitrite bacteria and nitrate bacteria had the same distribution in biofilters with and without PPC preoxidation. Compared with the BAC process alone, more quantity of nitrite bacteria and nitrate bacteria, higher nitrozation rate and nitrification rate were determined in the BAC process with PPC preoxidation, which was the main reason that BAC with PPC preoxidation had better performance for removing the ammonia and nitrite.
