Abstract

In order to reduce the loss of the large elevated liquid-storage tank with outside floating roof in earthquake, this paper analyses the dynamic response of large elevated liquid-storage tank with different forms of outside floating roofs (plate form, positive cone form, and reverse cone form) by building a finite element model with ANSYS, which is involved in fluid sloshing and tank bottom uplift. The numerical results show that the effect of outside floating roof on the seismic response of large elevated liquid-storage tank cannot be negligible, the roof can reduce the shock of the liquid, but it can also increase the height of the uplift of the bottom of the tank. The effect of different forms of outside floating roof on seismic response of elevated liquid-storage tank is different, and plate form is the optimal one.
