Abstract
A thermal circuit model is proposed to illustrate the effect of harmonics on the behaviour of a circuit-breaker, in which, both the going surface of alternating current and the temperature coefficient of electrical resistance are considered as the core of the model, and the transient thermal-circuit is used for resolving the model. The effectiveness of the model is proved by comparing the experimental break-time with the calculated results of the model. The circuit breaker's break-time decreases as the total harmonic distortions increase.
