Abstract
The minor addition is fundamental to controlling the formation, manufacture and properties of metallic materials by controlling nucleation during solidification. In the present work, we investigated the effect of minor addition of Sn on glass-forming ability, thermal stability and mechanical property of TiZrCuPd bulk glassy alloy system. The substitution of Cu by 2% Sn improves the glass-forming ability significantly. The Ti 40Zr 10Cu 34Pd 14Sn 2 bulk glassy alloy rod with a diameter of 12mm was fabricated by copper mold casting. The Ti 40Zr 10Cu 34Pd 14Sn 2 bulk glassy alloy exhibits higher energy for crystallization activation (334.3 kJ/mol). The addition of 2-4% Sn can enlarge the supercooled liquid region, indicating good thermal stability. TiZrCuPdSn bulk glassy alloys exhibit high compressive strength about 2000-2050 MPa.
