Abstract
ABSTRACT: In this study, the effects of specimen height-to-diameter ratios and lubricants on the plastic deformation behaviors of pure copper micro cylinders in compression were investigated. It is found that both the flow stress and friction factor increase with the decrease of the specimen height-to-diameter ratio. The flow stress of the specimen under lubricant of graphite is lower than that without lubricant. The buckling occurs earlier when using the lubricant of graphite compared to that without lubricant. Then the buckling in micro compression of specimens with higher height-to-diameter ratio under lubricant of graphite is revealed by a proposed model considering the inhomogeneous distribution of graphite between tools and specimen end surfaces.
