Abstract

Al2O3/LiTaO3 composite ceramics were fabricated by using hot-press sintering process in N2 atmosphere. Effect of grain sizes of A12O3 second phase and LiTaO 3 matrix on domain structures in Al2O3/ LiTaO3 composite ceramics were investigated. The results show that the domain quantity and density significantly decrease with decreasing grain sizes of A12O3 and LiTaO3, and the domain zones are also enlarged. Typical non-180° domain structures are only formed in zones of bigger grain deformation, but domain type and morphology exhibit no change in composite ceramics.
