Abstract

Two different strength criteria for fibers, Hashin and Hoffman criteria, of 3D fine woven punctured C/C composites are adopted in the computation. The maximum stress criterion is utilized to judge the damage initiation of matrix. The progressive damage process of the composites is obtained by finite element analysis of a representative volume element applied periodic boundary conditions. The results find that the damage model with Hoffman criterion of fibers is suitable to predict the mechanical response of the composites.
