Abstract

Effects of austenitizing temperature on carbide dissolution, grain size and retained austenite content of M50 steel were studied by means of electrolytic extraction, optical microscope observation, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results show that M23C6 and M6C carbides completely dissolve at the austenitizing temperature of 1000℃ and 1100℃. And the type of the residual carbides remains unchanged with the increasing temperature. The phenomenon of individual grain growth occurs at 1120℃, the average grain size reaches 37 μm at 1140℃, and the grain size grade number is 6.5. The content of retained austenite increases gradually with the increasing austenitizing temperature, and the content reaches 30% when the temperature is 1200℃.
