Abstract

One of the main issues in the design of high-speed permanent magnet motors is eddy current losses. The corresponding eddy current losses can be reduced by dividing the permanent magnets without considering the skin effect. However, in high-speed motors, there are high-order harmonics, which makes the skin effect cannot be ignored. At this time, the segmentation of the magnet will cause the eddy current loss to increase rather than decrease. In response to this situation, a method of axial and circumferential hybrid segmentation is proposed, and the segmentation parameter range required to reduce eddy current loss is given based on the material and frequency.
