Abstract

In order to investigate the applicability of viscous fluid dampers (VFDs) in large-scale precision air-floating vibration isolation systems, dynamic analysis of VFDs under low-frequency micro-vibration disturbances is studied in this article. Two theoretical mechanical models of VFDs are derived, with one accounting for fluid compressibility. The damping force of the two models under low-frequency micro-vibration disturbance and the effect of fluid compressibility are compared and analyzed with through numerical simulation. The results of the simulation demonstrate that VFDs are susceptible to low-frequency micro-vibration, and that fluid compressibility diminishes the damping performance of the VFD.
