Abstract

The experiment on resistance of acidic, alkali, salt solutions and freeze-thaw properties of FRP bars was performed by using the FRP bars developed by ourselves. Firstly, the CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) bars and GFRP (glass fiber reinforced polymer) bars were immerged into the alkali, acidic and salt solutions at 4 weeks and 8 weeks, respectively. Secondly, after 50-300 freeze-thaw cycles on GFRP and CFRP bars, the tensile test was performed, acquiring the corrosive effect of three solutions and the freeze-thaw effect on the properties degradation of tensile strength and elastic module of FRP bars. The results showed that GFRP bars could satisfy the durability requirements of acidic or salt solution and freeze-thaw condition except for the alkali solution. Compared to GFRP bars, CFRP bars have the superior acidic, salt and freeze-thaw resistance properties, and also performed quite well in the alkali solution condition.
