Abstract

A physical model for the propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves in the sub-wavelength plasma was established. The transmission of electromagnetic waves in the thin-layer surface of the reentry spacecraft was studied for the electromagnetic wave in the communication frequency band. The proposed model was based on the Maxwell's equations, and a differential thin layer method was used to solve the problem. The transmission characteristics and propagation laws of the electromagnetic wave in sub-wavelength plasma were obtained under different plasma densities. The effects of the cutoff reflection and the collisional absorption were revealed. This study is of great significance for understanding the propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves in sub-wavelength collisional plasmas.
