Abstract

In multiple-receiver-based wireless power transfer (WPT) equalizers, ensuring uniform voltage across receiving coils is essential. Conventional methods, such as realigning coils or adding structural components, often increase the system complexity and cost. To tackle this challenge, we propose a dual-layer WPT equalizer architecture that rectifies voltage imbalances within and between energy storage modules. This architecture compensates for mutual inductance variations caused by misalignments or coil properties and offers versatility, accommodating various coil geometries and alignments for efficient charging and balancing across different module configurations. Experimental validation demonstrates efficient charge equalization, achieving up to 76.8% efficiency at 32-V balancing voltage in nominal alignment. Even in the worst case with a 50% misalignment in the XY-direction relative to the pad size, the system reduces the voltage difference from 0.345 to 0.017 V.
