Abstract
A fundamental theory for the analysis of residual welding stresses and deformation based on the inherent strain distribution along the welded joint is introduced. The computation method of the distribution of longitudinal inherent strains in multiple-passes welding in heavy plate weldment is proposed, and calculation results and experimental results are identical with each other. The distributions of longitudinal inherent strains in one-pass welding and two-passes welding are compared with each other and analyzed. It is found that the hardness, the range of longitudinal inherent strains and the maximum longitudinal inherent strain in the two-pass welding are less than those in the one-pass welding. The effect of cutting on the inherent strain is discussed.
