Abstract

The stability is investigated for transverse vibration of an axially accelerating viscoelastic beam. The method of multiple scales is applied directly to the governing equation, and the solvability condition is derived from eliminating secular terms. Based on the condition, the stability boundaries are obtained in the cases of subharmonic resonance and combination resonance. Numerical examples are presented to show the effects of viscoelastic coefficient on the stability boundaries.
