Abstract

The rapidly solidified powders of a high silicon aluminum alloy were manufactured by the ultrasonic gas atomization process. The development characteristics of phase constitution, microstructure and microhardness of alloy powders after heat treatment at different temperatures were studied. The results showed that during the heat treatment, the metastable phase of the alloy changed into the stable phase gradually, a new intermetallic compound precipitated from the matrix and the second phases of the alloy became coarse during a high temperature treatment. At a lower temperature, the microhardness of the alloy powder decreased gradually with the increase of temperature and afterwards its microhardness remained constant. The Al-17Si-6Fe-4.5Cu-0.5Mg alloy is used in the test.
