Abstract

A test-bed of miniaturized machine tool is developed, that has a machine base size of 300 mm × 150 mm × 165 mm. The test-bed utilizes commercially available micro stages, a high-speed air turbine spindle, and linear ultrasonic motors and PC-based control board. Preparatory test results of the test-bed are presented, which include machined straight slots, circles, thin walls and human faces, and measured surface roughness at the bottom of the slot.
