Abstract
A novel ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse synchronous receiver for the through-wall detecting radar system is presented in this paper. Compared to the traditional Schottky diodes sampling gate, this receiver employs sampling phase detector (SPD) as the very fast sampling gate to implement the equivalent-time sampling for the microwave signal. The test results show that the receiver down-converts the microwave signal to base band signal and the waveform of the base band signal agrees very much close to the shape of original microwave input. The measured sampling bandwidth of the novel compact and low-cost receiver is 6 GHz with the dynamic range of 50 dB and the sensitivity of -46 dBm thus meeting the application requirements of the UWB through-wall detecting radar system.
