Abstract

In order to obtain ultra-wideband and high gain, the feed of impulse radiating antenna was designed and optimized. Based on tapered feed arms, the effects of tapered shape and the angle between feed arms were studied using electromagnetic simulation. The tendency and degree of the effect of each parameter on antenna performance had been given, and the optimal design was obtained. The measurement results show that the impulse radiating antenna has extremely wide impedance bandwidth, and the frequency whose return loss is lower than -10 dB ranges from 0.97 GHz to 18.8 GHz. Meanwhile, the antenna has high gain, which is 15.4-30.1 dB within the frequency range of 2-14 GHz. The measurement results agree well with the simulation results. The antenna can be widely used in ultra-wideband communication and impulse radar systems and has broad application prospects.
