Deployment driving analysis of radially retractable plate structure

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

The geometry of the retractable plate structures (RPS) and their equivalent foldable bar structures (FBS) are analysed, and the joint rotation and displacement during deployment are investigated. The joints which are better to be used as retractable plate roof structures' support points to support the structure and d riving points to drive the structure are discussed. The effects of combination of frictional torque on the motor required to deploy the RPS are predicted and the practical driving forces to deploy the RPS are investigated. The methods developed in this paper can be extended to all RPS and indeed to other mechanisms.
