Abstract
The effects of thermo-cycling and vacuum ultraviolet radiation in low earth orbit on performance damage of Al/Kapton films were investigated using space environment ground-based simulation facility. An atomic force microscope (AFM) and a spectrophotometer were used to characterize the morphology of the surface layer of Al/Kapton films and their reflectivity. The results suggest that thermo-cycling and VUV radiation make the mass loss of Al/Kapton film samples, with the changes of surface morphology to some extent and significant decrease of reflectivity in the ultraviolet visible wave band.
