Crystallographic orientation relationship between SiCw and Mg in squeeze-cast SiCw/Mg composites

Abstract

In this study, the interfacial structure without interfacial reaction products and precipitates, or clean, direct connecting interface between SiCw and Mg was investigated. A kind of orientation relationship (OR) was observed in squeeze-cast SiCw/Mg composites, which results from heterogeneous nucleation of Mg at the surface whisker. High interfacial bond strength was found to exist in these structures.
