Abstract

It is shown that high accuracy can be obtained in the determination of soft X-ray transition energies for gaseous samples by the use of XUV emission lines from a spark discharge as a calibration standard. A method is described to evaluate atomic core-electron binding energies in the range 100-1000 eV using soft X-ray emission spectroscopy. Carbon and oxygen 1s energies in CO2 are presented as well as N 1s in N2, S 2p in SF6, 1s in Ne, and 2p in Ar.
