N2 - Recently, the research of BIM has predominated over the building industry which is based on the policies support of construction industry information. In order to promote further development of BIM, the integrated application of BIM, and information technology, such as internet, big data, and cloud computing, is going to be the main research direction. Hence, it will be further combined for integrated management, smart decision making, and the improvement of quality and efficiency, which will lead to a sustainable future of the construction industry. At present, it is necessary that we get the whole picture of the research progress about the integrated application of BIM at home and abroad, and open up the new technologies with BIM for solving the remaining existing problems. With the Web of Science (WOS) database and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database taken as data sources, the literature about the integrated application about BIM published during 2008-2018 were collected and surveyed by using the combination method of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis and the visualization software Citespace. Mapping knowledge domains were drawn and comparatively analyzed from three aspects: application fields, the advantage of integration, application of the target. The results show that the integrated application of BIM and information technology is still a large space for development in the building industry all over the world. It will building a scientific and high-effect management system for all kinds of construction projects. In a word, BIM is not just a tool but the application of BIM is also a systems engineering proposition that accelerates the automation and intelligence in building industry.
