Abstract

This article investigates three different rotor structures of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), spoke-type PM (STPM), surface-spoke-type PM (SSTPM) and interior-spoke-type PM (ISTPM) for high-torque-density applications. A comprehensive comparison and analysis are conducted on their electromagnetic performance under no-load, rated-load, and overload conditions. Furthermore, an improved SSTPM motor is proposed and optimized to reduce motor torque ripple and accommodate high-precision control applications. The results show that SSTPM-Ⅰ results in higher torque density and overload capacity, while SSTPM-Ⅱ can effectively suppress torque ripple.
