Abstract
Based on the economic and Rail Freight Traffic data of Shanghai between 1990 and 2005, this paper aims to investigate the relationship between Rail Freight Traffic and economic growth, both the cointegration theory and Eviews software is applied. The main conclusions of this paper are as follows: The ranger causality test suggests that a single Granger causality relationship exits between the Rail Freight Traffic and GDP as well as the Rail Freight Traffic ton-kilometer and GDP; The Granger causality test indicates that the rail freight has been decreasing in recent years, and related departments should pay attention to this change; Some corresponding prospects and advice are given finally.
