Abstract
Spherical Li [Ni13 Co13 Mn13] O2 cathode material for lithium-ion batteries was prepared by salvolatile coprecipitation. The obtained Li [Ni13 Co13 Mn13] O2 was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), particle size distribution (PSD), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling. The XRD pattern of Li [Ni13 Co13 Mn13] O2 revealed a well-ordered hexagonal layered structure with low cation mixing. Spherical secondary particles and spherical primary particles can be identified from SEM observations. Reasonable size distribution of secondary particles was confirmed by PSD measurement. The initial discharge capacity of the Li [Ni13 Co13 Mn13] O2 cathode was 163.3 mAh g-1 in the voltage range of 2.8-4.3 V at 30°C, and 95.7% of the initial capacity was retained after 30 charge-discharge cycles.
