Abstract

A new class of rapid solidification processing (RSP) elevated temperature aluminum alloys with chemical compositions of Al98-3xCu2xFexNi1Ce0.5Zr0.5 (x = 1-3, all in atom percent) was developed, by using a spray forming process, which expands the alloy design versatility and has net-shape-formability. The tensile properties of Al98-3xCu2xFexNi1Ce0.5Zr0.5 alloy are shown. The alloy has proven itself to be heat resistant, in spite of the fact that the strength values at elevated temperatures are much lower than those at room temperature. It is established that the ultimate tensile strength of the Al98-3xCu2xFexNi1Ce0.5Zr0.5 alloy at 300 °C reached up to 260 MPa, and this values may be the highest reported for any heat-resistant aluminum alloy processed by spray forming.
