Abstract

This paper presents an axial-flux permanent-magnet eddy current brake with a slotted disc. The brake with the structure of the double-side series magnetic circuit and radial slotted conductor disk could generate high braking torque compared with that with solid conductor discs. A 3D FEA simulation model was built to calculate the electromagnetic field and analyze the braking characteristics. The structural parameters of pole pairs, PM thickness, slots, cogging width, and depth were analyzed specifically.
