Catalytic ozonation of Songhua River water by nano-TiO2/zeolite

Abstract

This paper presents the results obtained with heterogeneous catalytic ozonation in which Songhua River water was ozonized in the presence of nano-TiO2/zeolite as a solid catalyst. The removal efficiency of TOC and UV254, change of ammonia concentration and distribution of molecular weight were studied. TOC removal efficiency increased from 40% to 65% after adding nano-TiO2/zeolite into the ozonation process and UV254 removal efficiency increased from 55% to 73%, correspondingly. Ammonia concentration decreased at first, then increased slightly and decreased in the end. The ultimate removal efficiency of ammonia was 75%. The proportion of small molecule weight organic compounds in water increased in the ozonation process, while deceased in the catalytic ozonation process. Ozone dose, catalyst dose and temperature exerted positive influences on the removal of TOC, UV254 and ammonia.
