Abstract

As to the unoptimistic current situation of water environment of rivers and lakes in China, the thesis makes analysis research with the cases of comprehensive improvement of Lake Biwa in Japan, Rhine in Europe, and Thames in England and also proposes the five aspects for development of work needed for water environment governance of rivers and lakes in China: establish powerful river basin management institution; insist in controlling source of pollution; increase capital investment in environmental protection; government’s preferential economic policies on environmental protection; introduce the marketing economy into water governance.
