Abstract
In order to estimate operating stability of superconductors and permanent magnets in high temperature superconducting motor (HTSM), it is necessary to calculate the temperature distribution in HTSM accurately. In this paper, the thermal performance of a fully superconducting motor was investigated. The 2-D sinusoidal time-varying electromagnetic field of the fully superconducting motor was analyzed by using time-stepping finite element method, and the distributions of stator and rotor losses were obtained. According to the heat transfer theories, the heat transfer coefficients of stator surfaces were proposed through the followed numerical analysis. Then, the temperature field of HTSM was calculated and analyzed. From the comparative analysis of the obtained results with the measured data, the correctness of proposed methods could be proved. Conclusions can be drawn to provide certain references for designing the safe and reliab superconducting motor.
