Abstract

Based on the theoretical model for calculating the activity coefficient and its interaction parameters of the components in ternary alloy, the thermodynamic properties of Ti-47Al(at.%) based alloy with yttrium addition have been calculated. The calculating results show that the activity coefficient of Ti, Al and Y is remarkably increased with temperature enhancing in Ti-47Al-0.5Y alloy melt, and the activity coefficients of Al and Ti are great lower than that of Y, which show that yttrium is easy to react with impurities such as oxygen. It was also found that, with the increasing of Y content, the activity coefficient of yttrium increased remarkably, and the activity coefficient of titanium decreased gradually. The increasing of activity coefficient of yttrium presumes that the effect of RE purifying melting is enhanced.
