Bioinformatics database integration based on biomedical ontology

Abstract

The essential work of Bioinformatics is the analysis of large scale data. Molecular biology databases, which store diverse kinds of biological data, have been paid more and more attentions nowadays. However, current analysis of molecular biology databases is limited by their complicated content and data format. The available approaches always classify those databases by different working areas, trying to present a more efficient index for further analysis. This study proposed a content-based bioinformatics database integration model, named Network-on-Network Model, which indicates the research relevance of databases from the NAR Molecular Biology Database Collection. In addition, an integration system platform of biological database named 'Bio-DB^2' was designed and implemented. It can provide visualization of the relations between databases, thus present a more direct and operational way for database analysis.
