Abstract
Pulse methods for the measurement of thermophysical properties of materials at high temperatures are based on the possibility of fast temperature measurement from ms to μs from ms to us time resolution. Accurate high-speed pyrometer has been the basic experimental tool that opened new fields to experimental investigations. A brief summary shows the development in optical techniques for rapid temperature measurement during the last three decades. Different applications are presented, covering the areas of thermophysical property measurements at high temperatures and the development of new measuring techniques.
