Abstract

The properties of cenosphere/Al syntactic foams are closely related to their microstructures. To accurately characterize the microstructural features of cenosphere/Al syntactic foams and analyze the relationship of properties and microstructures, the image analysis technique has been used to investigate the cross-sectional images of syntactic foams. Novel methods have been developed to quantify the cenospheres volume fraction, shape characteristics and two dimensional distribution. The present results provide an effective solution for the microstructural characterization of cenosphere/Al syntactic foams.
