Abstract

Three different hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms, including PSO based on Simplex method (SM-PSO), PSO based on Powell search method (PW-PSO) and PSO based on Differential Evolution (DE-PSO), were applied to the inverse radiation problems. To illustrate the performance of these algorithms, three different cases were investigated in which the source term, the extinction coefficient and the scattering albedo in a one-dimensional participating slab were retrieved and all the results were compared with those of the standard PSO. The results confirm the potential of the proposed hybrid PSO algorithms being applied in the inverse radiation problems and show their effectiveness and superiority over the standard PSO algorithm.
