Abstract

This paper mainly studies the application of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in strain monitoring of civil engineering structure. The principle of FBG was illuminated. Static tests of a steel truss instrumented with FBGs were done, in order to study whose distinct sensing character and monitor strains of the truss. Then, FBG sensors were instrumented in a cable stayed bridge named Songhua River Bridge located in the Harbin city of China to monitor strains of key structure sections. A number of meaningful results were concluded.
