Application integration method for SHM and BIM

Structural health monitoring (SHM) and building information modelling (BIM) are not only both the research hot spots around the whole world, which are also the effective technique for developing the construction industrialization and information. The measurements on structural responses related to the structural safety can be obtained from SHM, while BIM can provide sharing platform which is good for sharing the measurements from SHM to multi agents. IFC is the most promising common data standard for BIM implementation. However, there are still some problems on the information expression and storage using IFC. The application integration method for SHM and BIM using IFC is proposed, which aims to develop a method on transferring measurements from SHM into model in BIM. The first step is to establish monitoring data model, and to build new custom Property Set including measurements, measuring date and time, sensor type and so on, which is used for better expression and storage of measurements and sensors information. Finally, this method is illustrated by a group of strain sensor data.
