Abstract

TiAl intermetallics with excellent specific properties are more competitive high temperature structural materials. In order to get complex components, many forming technologies such as precision casting, forging and powder metallurgy technologies have been investigated. Many typical components were produced and passed the bench test. At the same time, the investigation on TiAl sheet materials is progressing driven by the applications. The study results reveal that the lamellar orientation has an important effect on the mechanical properties. With the maturing of the forming technology, how to control the lamellar orientation becomes another very important project. The paper reviews Jhe recent development about this field, including Directional solidification during casting process, inherent influence of original structure on the terminal structure during diffusion reaction between Ti and Al foils.
